What is a CD50 motor conviction?

A CD50 means ‘causing death by careless driving when unfit through drugs. It carries 3 to 11 penalty points and stays on your licence for 11 years. A CD50 is viewed as a serious motor conviction and is why the rehabilitation period for this offence is longer than the four years for CD10, CD20 and CD30. During the 11 year period you will need to disclose the CD50 to your insurer. If you fail to do so, when the insurer finds out, they may cancel your policy and refuse to pay any claims.

If the driver has existing penalty points and the CD50 takes the total number of points over 12, then this would lead to a ban from driving, also known as a TT99. A TT99 is known as a totting up offence and can lead to disqualification for typically 6 months to a year.
