Drugs and driving
It is illegal to drive if:
•You’re unfit to do so because you’re on legal or illegal drugs.
•You have certain levels of illegal drugs in your system (even if they haven’t affected your driving)
The police can stop you and make you do a ‘field impairment test’ if they think you’re on drugs. They can also use a roadside drugs test to check for Cannabis and Cocaine. A blood or urine test will then be undertaken at the police station.
Prescription medication
It is illegal to drive in England and Wales with legal drugs in your body if it impairs you’re driving or you were not prescribed them and have over the specified limits of certain drugs in your blood. Check with your doctor about whether you should drive on any of the following drugs:
•Amphetamine
•Clonazepam
•Diazepam
•Lorazepam
•Flunitrazepam
•Methadone
•Oxazepam
•Temazepam
•Morphine or opiate based drugs (codeine, tramadol, fentanyl)
