Car and Van Insurance with a CU40

What is a CU40 motor conviction?

A CU40 driving endorsement means ‘using a vehicle with defective steering. Like the other Construction and Use offences – CU10, CU20, CU30, CU50 and CU80 – it carries 3 penalty points and stays on your licence for 4 years. Until the CU40 is spent it needs to be disclosed to your insurer or insurance broker. The penalties can be steep for non disclosure including rejecting claims and hefty additional insurance premiums.

If the driver already has points on their licence, a CU40 may take them over the 12 point threshold leading to a ban. A disqualification is known as a totting up TT99 offence and typically leads to a ban for 6 or 12 months.

Low cost car and van insurance with a CU40

Convicted driver car and van insurance with a CU40 can be very difficult to find, particularly if you’re after a low priced policy. Many insurers stay away from drivers with a CU40 because they think the driver poses a bigger risk of having a future claim.
