What is a CD90 motor conviction?

A CD90 means ‘causing death by driving: unlicensed, disqualified or uninsured drivers’. It carries 3 to 11 penalty points and remains on the licence for four years. During this time the conviction must be informed to your insurer so they know about it. If a CD90 isn’t disclosed to your insurer, and they find out, your policy could be cancelled and any claims that have happened rejected.

A CD90 is part of the Careless Driving offences. This includes the CD10, CD20 and CD30 which carry 3 to 9 penalty points and stay on the driving licence for four years; the CD40, CD50, CD60 and CD70 which carry 3 to 11 points and stay on for 11 years; and the CD80 and CD90 which carry 3 to 11 points and stay on for four years.

If the driver has existing penalty points before acquiring a CD90 this may lead to a totting up offence if it takes them over the 12 point threshold. A totting up offence or TT99 means a ban or disqualification from driving for a stated period of time.
