Car and Van Insurance with an AC20

What is an AC20 motor conviction?

An AC20 means ‘failing to give particulars or report an accident within 24 hours’. It carries 5 to 10 penalty points and stays on your licence for four years. Until the conviction is spent under the Reform of Offenders Acts the AC20 must be disclosed to your insurer. If you fail to mention the AC20 to your insurer, they will either charge you a penalty at a later date, or may even cancel your policy and refuse to deal with any claims.

If a driver has existing penalty points, then they could become disqualified under the totting up rules if they exceed the threshold limit of points. This is known as a TT99 can lead to a ban of at least a year.

Finding cheap insurance for an AC20

Convicted driver car insurance can be very difficult if you have a serious motor endorsement such as for drink driving, reckless/dangerous driving or uninsured driving. An AC20 is no different and you will find most insurers either won’t quote or will charge a rip off amount to insure your car, bike or van.

Here at Convicted we’re experts in finding affordable car insurance with convictions. We’ve negotiated excellent rates with a number of specialist insurers in the field, and will negotiate on your behalf to find you the best deal. Whether you need 30 day or annual insurance we can offer both options.

Accident offences

An AC20 comes under the ‘accident offences’ category and also includes AC10 (failing to stop after an accident) which carries 5 to 10 penalty points, and AC30 (undefined accident offences) which carries 4 to 9 penalty points. Here at Convicted we can cover any of the above offences regardless of your situation.

We also specialise in impounded car insurance, so if you’ve had your vehicle seized by the police and taken off you, get in touch and we can arrange you with a covernote which you can use to retrieve your car from the impound.
