Is having a glass of wine with dinner is now Drink Driving?

A new law in drink driving came into force this week with the legal alcohol limit has reduced by 37.5%. This new law simply means that you can no longer drink and drive with one glass of wine with dinner becoming a risk of being prosecuted.

The new law has been introduced to be in line with the rest of Europe. Scotland has been rated to be one of the worst places for drink driving accidents and fatalities with this new law becoming the first step in reducing that claim. This is in hopes that drivers will cut out alcohol altogether before getting behind the wheel.

The new law has caused concerns by those living near the Scotland/England border as the new law only applies to Scotland. England has a higher acceptance of alcohol limit when driving with the average person allowing to drink two glasses of wine or a pint and a half before driving. These concerns are with roads that cross the border to get to homes or back from restaurants or bars.

Lower limit is backed by the Scottish population.

The vote however was encouraged by the Scottish population to reduce the limit as many families have been effected by dangerous driving and the majority of those by drink driving. The lower limit was also questioned whether or not it could be lower to ban drinking and driving altogether.

The limit to be put to absolute zero has been ruled out because of certain medication and medicinal alcohol liquid.

The likely hood of becoming a convicted driver with these new laws are increasing with the questionable limit no longer existing. The driving bans have also increased with convictions such as up to 15 years in prison or/and an unlimited ban for those drinking and driving.

The quest for affordable DR10 car and van insurance

Having received a DR10 motor conviction, things only get harder from an insurance perspective. Most of the insurers in the UK don’t like to insure drink drivers since they believe this poses a higher insurance risk and that the driver is likely to repeat a similar offense again. This is a one dimensional approach since it doesn’t consider the history of the driver or any other traits.

If you’ve been caught driving whilst having an above limit of alcohol concentration in the past you’ll know how difficult it is to find affordable car insurance. Most insurers won’t offer to quote, those that do will charge an enormous amount. But why is this? Too many insurers are quick to label and stereotype, they don’t think you can learn from your mistakes and expect you to trip up again.
